Australia
I feel very lucky to have visited Australia and I would love to go back to explore it more! I have relatives over in Perth, so I spent a week traveling around the Margaret River area with them, before flying over the east of the country to travel along the coastline.
Starting at the unbelievably stunning Whitsunday Islands, with a very relaxed vibe in Airlie Beach, it was my birthday while we were there and spent a day snorkeling with the turtles, a once in a lifetime kind of moment! As we travelled along the coastline, we visited Fraser Island with 75 Mile Beach and the Pink Lake. Stayed at Mooloolaba (easy one for you to say!) on the Sunshine Coast and walked along Noosa heads. A very brief overnight stay in Sydney before finishing the trip in Melbourne, mountain biking in the You Yangs National Park followed by a day at the beach town of St. Kilda.
Kefalonia
I have visited several Greek Islands, Kefalonia is hands down the top of my list, with stunning beaches and landscapes, beautiful fishing villages (Fiskardo – especially) and the whole romantic element as Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was filmed there. I stayed in Skala which has a fantastic choice of tavernas all serving fresh seafood along with familiar Greek dishes.
Montenegro
One of my absolute favourites. I loved the contrast of the medieval old towns of Budva and Kotor with the picturesque Durmitor National Park area with its impressive gorges, stunning mountains, and crystal-clear lakes. The people in Montenegro are so friendly, and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out/nightlife in Budva and Kotor.
Lake District
I feel so at home here, the scenery never fails to impress me, in all weathers, even after visiting the same place several times. It’s difficult to pin point just one area as my favourite, it’s a close call between Eskdale and Buttermere, both of which are a bit more ‘off the beaten track’ than more popular areas in the Lake District which is probably why I love them so much, it feels like a true escape from the rest of the world when I stay here. I have ticked off various Wainright fells in the area so far, but still over half to do, it’s a work in progress! I feel very fortunate to live so near to one of the most beautiful places in the UK.
Maldives
There is no other way to describe the Maldives than absolute paradise. Powder soft sands, azure blue sea and abundance of marine life. Sunset cruises serving the best seafood I have ever tasted. Feeding the stingrays was an experience I will never forget, alongside snorkeling with colourful tropical fish and witnessing the picturesque sunrises. Something I was unaware of before island hopping through the Maldives, is the versatility of this destination. There is such a vast range of hotels for all different types of traveller, it’s not just for honeymooners!
